CUBA - Varadero travel WHOAdvisor
I've just booked up for 10 days in June, what's it like and what's there to do before the Septics come in and fuck it up?

Went to Cayo Coco the year before last, which was lovely- but no help to you.

Spend a night or two in Havana. Absolutely WONDERFUL city.

Veradero's great. Enjoy the sun and Cuba Libres. Make sure you spend time in Havana - my only regret is that I didn't get to see other places such as Trinidad, Santiago etc. They're supposed to be worth a visit. Veradero's where the luxury is though.

Get a lock in at the Bacardi factory and have a hike up to the hills to Fidels and Ches rebel camp.

Havana is worth a trip, they're still very much wrapped up in the revolution which is odd as it was so long ago

Visiting Havana for at least a day is a must.

It is a World Heritage site & one of the most interesting & beautiful cities in the world

You can get a bicycle taxi along the length of the Malecon (promenade), La Ramp is worth a visit, with interesting & exotic shops

Club Tropicana is well worth a visit, colourful costumes & truly amazing gravity-defying dancing

There are some of the most stunningly beautiful women in Cuba (nudge nudge wink wink!)

As with other comments - you must go to Havana for a couple of days. It's a wonderful place.

Varadero is nice for a couple of days but you will soon get bored of it unless all you want to do is sit on a beach. You might as well not bother going to Cuba if you don't go to Havana and by that I mean spending at least one night there. Hotels can be expensive so you can stay in a casa particulars with a family (like a b&b). Plenty of good places to drink in havana. If you're not with a woman go to club tropicalia where you can take your pick of the local girls.

Vinales (the tobacco growing region) shouldn't be missed either and is an easy day trip from havana.

In all honesty id suggest three nights in havana. If you still are bored of varadero after that you should go down to Trinidad.

Have a guided tour of Havana . its well worth the 10 pound or so

Then go on foot the following day and pop into the local market and nice looking place to eat that you saw on the trip

Beggers vendors etc are not a prob . worst you may get is a few small kids asking for sweets

Re: CUBA - Varadero travel WHOAdvisor
I have been told about using the B&B option rather than hotels in Havana... Definately want to get some cigars so a factory tour will be on the itinary.

Re: CUBA - Varadero travel WHOAdvisor
If you want to take cigars out of the country you are only allowed to take a few loose ones
They should in theory be in a sealed box with an official receipt other wise customs will want a word

They are a buck a piece on the beach and about 3 bucks in official shops

Re: CUBA - Varadero travel WHOAdvisor
I was after a box of 25? Decent ones, montecristo or the likes....

Gavros 11:22 Tue Jan 6
Re: CUBA - Varadero travel WHOAdvisor
You'll be offered 'genuine' cohiba/ montechristo/ Romeos everywhere but they are always fake, no matter what story you get about so and sos son working in the factory. You have to get them put of the official stores if you want the real thing. The alternative is to go to vinales where part of the tour will be to visit a tobacco farm. There you'll be able yo pick up a dozen bona fide churchillios for about $15.

I'm going to Cuba but I'll not be going to Veradero. Its for cunts. I'll be taking piano lessons in Havana and then nipping over to Trinidad on the south coast. There's a very cool club in a cave there.

Did Varadero in 2010. Got the bus and spent 3 nights in Havana. It's the tits.

Me and the Missus got up early and walked along the Malecon. There was an old guy playing Moon River on his trumpet. Magical.

Nacional. Bacardi Building (you can just wander up onto the roof for a great view). Museum of the Revolution. Loads to do. Fill up on Rum. Havana Club £5 a bottle.

Gavros 11:38 Tue Jan 6
Re: CUBA - Varadero travel WHOAdvisor
